Ben Harper: With folk music being a family affair, Ben Harper was seemingly destined to become an icon of the genre. Harper has managed to top the charts with his blues infused folk-rock sound during the past decade. The slide-guitar impresario will be sharing his music to a worldwide audience this Spring and Summer, 2011. Ben Harper tour dates are currently scheduled internationally at individual performances and festivals throughout North America and Europe.

Harper was born and raised in Claremont, California and was reared in his grandparent's music store, "The Folk Music Center and Museum". It proved to be an influential haven for Harper who was inspired by such regulars as Leonard Cohen and famed blues-guitarist Taj Mahal. It was the latter who offered Harper a touring spot with his band when he was a teenager. By the early '90s Harper had secured a major label deal with Virgin Records who released his debut "Welcome to the Cruel World" in 1994. He released his sophomore effort "Fight for Your Mind" in 1995, which scored success on college radio stations across America and received platinum status in Canada. During the late '90s, Harper met Jack Johnson and passed along his demo to his producer J.P. Plunier, and the pair of folk-singer's would go on to become pioneers of SoCal's laid back rock scene.

Harper followed up with "The Will To Live" in 1997 and "Burn to Shine" in 1999. The latter featured the radio hit "Steal My Kisses", which has been his biggest US radio hit to-date. He became an international sensation and Ben Harper tour dates were booked on international outings as well as a headlining appearance at Coachella Valley's Music and Arts Festival in 2003. Harper released "Diamonds on the Inside" in 2003 and was named French Rolling Stone Magazine's Artist of the Year.

Throughout his career, Harper has been a political activist and a voice of change. Harper participated in the "Vote for Change" concert tour in 2004 and contributed the song "Oppression" for a benefit album in support of Aung San Suu Kyi, the imprisoned Burmese Nobel Peace Prize winner. In the same year, Harper became a Grammy winner for his collaboration with the Blind Boys of Alabama. The pair's album, "There Will be Light", won two Grammy awards for Best Gospel Album and their song "11th Commandment" won for Best Pop Instrumental Performance.

In 2006, Harper released his highest charting album to-date, "Both Sides of the Gun", which debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200. He released his last album "White Lies For Dark Times" in 2009, the album featured the backing of Texas rock band Relentless7. In addition to recording original material, Ben Harper has released several live albums, the most notable being "Live At the Apollo" in 2006. Ben Harper tour dates are scheduled on an international outing this spring and summer 2011. Additionally, he is set to release "Give Till It's Gone" in May 2011. The busy folk-rocker will be touring throughout North America and Europe in support of the album. Harper has brought activism and sincerity to hoards of music goers since he hit the scene in the '90s. Use Eventful as your source for Ben Harper tour dates and concert schedule information.
